2008: 24 Heures du LeMons at CMP: More LeMons than Lemonade...

After a highly successful 2007 campaign in the 24 Hours of LeMons Series, driver Ted Hamilton (NC)was invited to return with the RBankRacing.Com team as a driver in the East coast Kershaw, SC event.  Carolina Motorsports Park was the finest facility we've been to yet, and is only 3 hours south of our home in Winston-Salem.

Friday was a practice day, run by the fine folks of TurnOne at CMP.  I got perhaps 25 laps of tracktime, and it was a blast -- the car was flawless, and my second session laptimes were great.  There were 9 other LeMons cars there, and the track time was pretty open and uncrowded.  The weather held, and we seemed well prepared for the next day (Saturday).  As Saturday's racing began, we took the lead via the efforts of leadoff driver Justin Schuh (WY) for the first 4 hours.  After a heroic effort by Justin, the brakes proved a bit less than heroic and gave up the ghost sometime during the second session by Rob (PA).

From then on, we combatted various mechanical issues, some caused by collision damage, the rest from stock parts that weren't up to the task.  I got about 9 laps in before returning to the pits to save the transmission from damage.  We soldiered on for a while, but eventually succombed to total brake failure on Sunday.  Although we were sad to DNF, we had a good time, and look to return for two scheduled events at CMP in 2009.  Perhaps we'll even prepare our own LeMons entry.... who knows...

Karting - The Ultimate Training?

Thanks to some generous offers from fellow members of the 4Cycle.com karting community, we've acquired a 100cc Italsistem Formula A engine.  This little beastie is a fire-breathing rotary valve intake engine that packs about 25-30 HP depending on tune, and came complete with IBEA carb and header.  We need to get the mount and some miscellaeneous small bits to get her on track, but that should happen by the end of August.  Stay tuned for the debut run!  I anticipate that this setup will be a good tool for calibrating my right foot to modulate the throttle and stay in the physical fitness required by our endurance racing.  I'll keep you posted on our progress...

The NoBS(tm) Guide to Karting

Frustrated by the lack of clear options in karting?  Wondering how to get started?  Well, after reading several websites and being involved in the sport for a number of years, I noticed a gap of info for the novice karter -- where to begin?  While karters are generally friendly, the sheer number of options can be overwhelming.  To help you get started on the right track, we've put together an ebook that contains a lot of basic (and sometimes subtle) info that will clear things up!  If you want a copy, drop me an email or give me a call!
